Welcome!

Amongst the pages in this site, you will find information on the upcoming book, "Oregon's Living Legends", written by Andi Harmon, with artwork by Michelle Severe.

Where did it all start?

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to write.

One day, at a Kiger Mustang adoption, I began talking with Michelle Severe, a local Western artist about her artwork depicting wild horses. We saw a need for a book about wild horses ... but not just "any" book about wild horses.

I've been a volunteer for the Oregon BLM Wild Horse and Burro program for several years, along with my husband. I've seen the good and the bad with the program, the horses, the people and the public. So a dream started, and then became a reality.

With the assistance of our wonderful BLM staff here in Oregon, I began my research and dove into the book idea. I asked Michelle if I did this book, would she be the artist for it? Michelle readily agreed and the rest, as they say, is history!

My book isn't a political statement, it's not "pro-BLM", it's not "pro-wild horse advocate", it's not cold with just facts and it's not all touchy-feely with the whole "Black Stallion Syndrome" type of thing either. Actually, it's all of those things and none of those things at the same time. My hope is the book will not only help people see and understand the wild horses and the herds and grow to love and appreciate them they way we have but that it will also serve as an example of what the BLM program in every state *could* be.

This book also touches on the beginnings of the national Wild Horse and Burro program, with facts from the BLM themselves. It talks about range management, horse management, livestock management and wildlife management. You will find wonderful photos and fantastic artwork within the book. You'll have maps depicting the locations of wild horses in Oregon. And you'll hear heart warming stories of adopters who have taken home their own wild horse.

This book will not only shed some light on how the Oregon BLM manages the herds under their care, but will also provide tourism information on places to stay, things to see, stuff to do while you are out looking for horses in the wild.

We would like to extend a big "Thank You" to all who visited Hamley's in Pendleton Oregon and showed an interest in our book and artwork! The response was wonderful and we were excited to see how much everyone enjoyed our display!
